When people want the world but, only pay for a pebble.

We all like to believe that getting “the job”, “the project” and working to our best is going to get us paid more than the slacker next guy however, that is not always the case. For example, when AR got started, over 4 years ago, there was a time that simple web project would take over a month to complete for pennies per hour. Before you start to wonder if we were just ill-equip, didn’t have a clue as to what we were doing, made a bunch of mistakes from clients to software, well, we were and did all of that. Make your mistakes with the first few, as long as you communicate with the client on a daily or every other day basis, then they might not mind that things are taking longer then expected.

The biggest reason we took so long was we wanted all of our clients, from the top down, first to last, highest to lowest paying, best looking to… well you get the point, to be something great. Something great for the client and something great for us. Those clients where the starting point for more clients and we never regretted working so hard with such little monetary return.  So, make the choice to be great from the start and you will get the clients you want, when you want them, for as much you want them to pay for, eventually.

If you plan to start and stay on the road to being great, and take great direction along the way, there will be nothing to stop your momentum to greatness.

This series of Ira Glass youtube videos is great for anyone looking to get some great direction:

Contracts only work when you use them.

We at AR work with a lot of clients from all around the globe and every now-and-then we have to revamp our contract to fit with the particular client we are working with. There are even cases that a client has a better suggestion of how to make our contracts better, and since we know that we are not perfect, we love suggestions.

Here are tons of resources online for how to form a freelance or company contract that is right for you:

Push as if you love it.

We here are often being pushed into a situation where we are not always the best and that is where you really start to see growth that was never there before.  The great thing about the way we have decided to do a project by being open to the possibilities and willing to make those possibilities a reality.

When have you been pushed in a project to do more then you thought possible and in turn have been able to really grow from that experience?

edge of being pushed

You cannot push anyone up the ladder unless he is willing to climb.
